OakNet Notes

Active Contact Person Sought

Despite the current Actives' openness and connectedness with us alums, there is room for improvement. Chris Hall has been working diligently to learn the skills the inimitable Zibby has been using to perform this function so well for the last several decades. Chris' recent move to northern California and the birth of his son has, despite his unbridleable energy, dampened his ability to apply these newly learned skills. We alums need someone located near Claremont who can work with and learn from Zibby to coordinate and enhance our contact and interaction with current and future Actives. Please contact the editors if you are interested in this role.

Littlest Nappie

Your senior editor's son, Whitman Thomas Hall, was born March 15th, 1996 at 6:04 a.m. He weighed 8 lbs. 1.4 oz., was 21 inches long, and had a full head of strawberry blond hair. Chris wrote, "Unlike his dad, he seems to be keeping it."

Chris went on to ponder, "If in fact he does matriculate with Pomona's Class of '17 (assuming I can come up with the 500 grand a year it will take to send him there) I wonder if he'll do his old man proud and become maggot #1602? Only time will tell ..."

Chris went on to write me lots of mushy stuff about his love and awe for his wife, Janie, but I won't embarrass him with the details.

Congratulations, Chris & Janie and Welcome Whit!

NAP E-Mail to E-Mail

In the next couple of months, we will be starting a NAF Internet mailing list. Robert Falconer '87 #975 will be providing the Internet resources required and Paul Nagai will be managing the list's day to day needs. Contact the editors directly if you're already interested. We will be writing more about it for those new or unfamiliar with the Internet in the next issue.

Editors' Pledge

New letters too late for this issue continue to arrive. We have an interesting idea or two up our sleeves. While we are not going to print a date here (who'd believe us at this point anyway?), we will be publishing again SOON! It's a promise, so send in your news, dues and views. Help us along. -Eds.

Oak Leaf Production Facts

Chris Hall began publishing the Oak Leaf using a computer several issues ago and we have all seen the format and consistency improve dramatically.

When Paul Nagai took over the production aspects of the Oak Leaf, there was no question that he, too, would use a computer. Microsoft Publisher, Chris' tool of choice, has been retired in favor of FrameMaker. Microsoft Word for Windows is still used for early writing and editing. Paint Shop Pro is used to crop, resize, or retouch photographs or drawings when required. Some of the banner graphics originally produced in Microsoft Publisher were recreated (as closely to the originals as possible) using Visio Technical.

OakNet

Nu Alpha Phi will soon have its own site on the Internet! Yes, it may be cliché, but it's true. Matt Kosokoff '88 #982 will be webmastering the site and is very eager to have visitors, suggestions, and content. Part of the site will be dedicated to the web version of the Oak Leaf we've dubbed OakNet. We have a lot of ideas for both the site as a whole and for the OakNet itself, but we'll need many more. We expect them to come from you, so please, if you have experience as a web developer or if you're just a slacker surfer and know what CERN stands for, send your ideas to the editors.
