Sound The Horn

It is time. The Actives have delivered the goods and returned to full and good standing within the Pomona College community. Now that the fat is out of the fire, it is our duty as Alumni to rise to the challenge their efforts and achievements have issued and make equally heroic efforts to reconnect with them, the life blood of our association.

Over the years, decades really, there have been Nu Alphs who have as Alumni forged bonds with Actives infusing and reinfusing the active chapter with the history and the original spirit that bound our charter members together and drove them 84 years ago to found our Fraternity.

You know their names. We have celebrated them here. Pomona College has celebrated many of them in its own ways.

Now perhaps more than any time in our history we all must (though our own ties to Nu Alpha Phi may not be as great and deep and broad as those found in our famous brothers and sisters) heed the call to welcome our Active brothers and sisters, to weave our own individual strands back into the Golden Thread that wends its way through our history.

Ok, that's it. I'm done with the epic hyperbole. Now to the practical.

Plan to attend Pomona College Alumni Week (April 28-30) whether or not this is a five-year anniversary for you or not. Let's work with the Actives and Pomona College to sponsor a magnificent Alumni - Active Wash and dinner. Perhaps we can even reserve the Wash space for a Nu Alpha Phi dinner, in addition to the Sunday Brunch this year. (Now that I've suggested this, is there a volunteer out there who would like to coordinate the effort of making this happen? Your editor is shameless!)

If you live near campus, get in touch with the Actives and invite yourself to a Wash, a meeting, or some other on-campus NAP event. Or, even better, invite them to your house for a barbecue.

If you are passing through, find a way to meet even one or two Actives.

Do whatever it is you can make happen.

We owe the current crew that much. We owe it to our contemporary brothers and sisters. We owe it to those who came before us. We owe it to the founding charter members of Nu Alpha Phi. We owe it to ourselves.

P.S. I need articles for the next issue of the Oak Leaf. Are you a writer? Do other people think you're a writer? Send me your idea for an article. Or just send me an e-mail indicating you're willing to write one and we'll work out a topic that suits you.

Do you know an Alumni who is a writer (even if they don't know it or think so)? Would you like to put someone on the spot? Want to read what one of your brothers or sisters has to say on a specific topic? Send me their name and contact information (topic optional, but nice). I'll reach out to them and let them know you're to blame.
