Nu Alpha Phi Web Site

As promised in our last issue, Nu Alpha Phi now has a presence on the Internet. Direct your web browser (probably Netscape) to the following address:

http://www.nu-alpha-phi.org

Note that the "-" are dashes, not underscores.

The current Oak Leaf will be available online under the link titled OakNet, the online incarnation of the Oak Leaf. Initially, the only difference between the printed and online versions will be photographic content. Color photographs are in color on OakNet while they are black-and-white in print. Also, more photographs may be available online than we are able to put in the printed Oak Leaf due to space limitations.

In the future, we do expect the personality, content, and editorial policy of the OakNet to diverge from the Oak Leaf. We don't presently know how or in what ways, exactly, this will happen. It just seems inevitable and a Good Thing.

Back Issues

Initially, back issues of the Oak Leaf will begin with those published in 1996. It is possible that selected text and photographs from pre-1996 issues of the Oak Leaf will be made available in the future. At present, however, we are directing our energy to publishing the Oak Leaf quarterly as chartered, so historical content will probably not begin appearing until third quarter 1997 at the earliest.

The OakWeb: E-Directory

One of the most exciting features of the site is a web page dedicated to contact information for Nu Alpha Phi brothers and sisters. Presently this page contains links to electronic contact information for wired alums. We're currently linking to e-mail addresses, personal web pages, and professional web pages. Don't feel limited by these categories if you have additional Internet presence-types! Educate and inform us: we aim to please.

To have your information included on this page, e-mail it to the NAP WebMaster (). Be sure to include your class year and maggot number if you know it.

If you do not remember your maggot number, do not let this keep you from submitting your electronic contact information to the Nu Alpha Phi web site (or writing in to the Oak Leaf, for that matter). We have records of all of the maggot numbers and will include them with your submission. You would never know it, because we take care of it behind the scenes, but, believe us, lots of alums who write in have forgotten their numbers.

Maggot Number Query Tool

Continuing with the thought of forgotten maggot numbers, we will soon have a utility on our web site that will allow the forgetful to find their number without letting anyone know, including the WebMaster and editors! You should soon be able to enter your name, click a button, and view your maggot number. It will probably work in reverse, too, just for fun. Robert Falconer (email_deleted) will be programming this nifty addition to the web site. Robert thinks he'll be able to complete the programming by February, 1997.

A feature we have already included on the web site is an Alumni Wash page. To help announce these events and distribute time and location information for NAP Alumni Washes, all of this type of information will be made available online. If you want to sponsor your own Wash, send an e-mail to the NAP WebMaster () with the pertinent information. See Alumni Wash for more information.

Privacy Policy

Finally, a word about privacy and the use of your information. Any electronic contact information submitted to either the online (OakNet) or printed version of the Oak Leaf will be made available in both versions. U.S. Postal Service address information will only be included in the printed version unless you specifically request that we include it on the web site.

You may, of course, specifically request that we withhold or publish any information you wish.
